If you are looking for the iconic Wisteria Lake Como displays, April 2026 is the perfect time to visit. The air is filled with the scent of jasmine and the landscape is currently painted in shades of lavender and violet. Wisteria season in Lake Como is a short but spectacular window, and knowing exactly where to find the best “purple curtains” is the key to those iconic photos.

When to See the Wisteria Lake Como Peak Bloom in 2026
For 2026, the best time to see wisteria in Lake Como is right now! The bloom typically starts in late March and reaches its peak between April 5th and April 25th. Depending on the sun exposure, some vines may last into early May, but the “full purple” look is happening this week.
The Best Free Wisteria Walk: Como Stadium to Villa Olmo
Most visitors head straight to the mid-lake villas, but one of the most beautiful (and free!) spots is right in Como city. Here is a chance to see the famous wisterias but also many other Lake Como spring flowers.
The walking path starting from the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium and leading toward Villa Olmo is currently a tunnel of flowers. As you walk along the lakeside, you’ll find massive wisteria vines draped over the historic railings, framing the lake perfectly for photos.
- Pro Tip: Park at the Stadium parking lot (see my Parking Guide) and walk toward Villa Olmo during the “golden hour” for the best light.

Top Villas for Spring Flowers (The Botanical Gems)
1. Villa Cipressi (Varenna)
If you are looking for the absolute best wisteria photo spot in Lake Como, Varenna is the place. Villa Cipressi features a stunning tiered botanical garden that cascades down toward the water. Their wisteria pergolas are legendary, offering a purple canopy with the blue lake in the background. Im sure you have seen those instagram posts with the gate, the flowers and the lake in the background.
Stay in the Garden: Did you know you can actually stay inside the villa? It is one of the most romantic hotels on the lake. 🏨 Check availability at Villa Cipressi for your 2026 trip
2. Villa Carlotta (Tremezzina)
Famous for its massive collection of azaleas and rhododendrons, Villa Carlotta is a must-see in late April. They even have special “Azaleas in Bloom” tours scheduled for April 30, 2026. The wisteria here climbs the ancient walls and frames the citrus tunnels beautifully. See more in my What to see in: Villa Carlotta guide.
3. Grand Hotel Tremezzo (Tremezzina)
For a luxury flower experience, the gardens of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo are second to none. They have a “Flowers Pool” surrounded by lush greenery and one of the oldest private parks on the lake.

4. Hotel Villa Flori (Como)
Located on the way to Cernobbio, this 19th-century villa is immersed in a centuries-old park. It’s a quieter alternative to the mid-lake crowds but offers equally stunning floral views from its private balconies.

Summary: My Top 3 Flower Photo Spots
- The Como Lakeside Path: Best for a free, casual stroll near the stadium.
- Villa Monastero & Villa Cipressi: The most iconic “Varenna” purple views.
- Villa del Grumello: A hidden gem that reopened on April 6, 2026!

Plan Your Perfect Floral Escape
Seeing the wisteria in bloom is just the beginning of a spring trip to Lake Como. To make the most of the season, you’ll want to visit the grand botanical gardens where these flowers have been cultivated for centuries.
Don’t Miss the Masterpiece Gardens
While the lakeside walk in Como is beautiful, the “Big Two” villas offer a completely different scale of floral beauty:
- Villa Carlotta: Famous for its sea of azaleas and ancient wisteria tunnels. It is a must-visit during late April.
- Villa del Balbianello: Home to some of the most meticulously manicured gardens in Italy, including their iconic climbing creeping fig and spring blooms.
The Best View is From the Water
Many of the most spectacular wisteria displays are on private estates that aren’t open to the public. The only way to see these hidden “purple curtains” cascading down to the water is by boat. To avoid the long ferry lines during the busy spring season, I highly recommend booking a private or small-group tour. 👉 See my guide to the Best Lake Como Boat Tours here.
