Living around Lake Como has given me a front-row seat to the Lake Como weather and the changing weather this region experiences throughout the year. The seasons transform the landscape in distinct ways, each offering something special.
Lake Como Weather in Spring (March – May)
In March, April, and May, spring brings mild temperatures ranging from around 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F). The air feels fresh and cool, especially in the mornings and evenings, while the days gradually warm up. Spring is perfect for enjoying blossoming flowers and outdoor activities like hiking. It is also a time where it can be hard to put on the right close for a full day outside. In the morning you might need your jacket, but in the afternoon it might be too hot for a jacket.
Lake Como Summer Weather (June – August)
June, July, and August make up the warmest months. Summer temperatures typically range between 25°C and 30°C (77°F to 86°F), with July usually being the hottest month averaging around 28°C (82°F). A few weeks each summer we tend to hit 35°C during the day. Those weeks can be hard to deal with, especially if your accommodation does not have air condition.
When you are outside your apartment, the lake helps moderate the heat, so even on warmer days, it feels comfortable. Occasionally, there might be short summer thunderstorms, but they usually pass quickly and are welcome to cool down everything a bit. Summer is the time when the lakeside is buzzing with activity, from swimming (in the north end of the lake) and boating to festivals.
Autumn Weather in Lake Como (September – November)
As autumn arrives in September, October, and November, temperatures gradually cool from an average of 22°C (72°F) in September down to about 10°C (50°F) in November. This season is marked by beautiful fall foliage and slightly increased rainfall, particularly in October and November. The air becomes crisper, which I personally find very refreshing. But its another season where it can be really difficult to figure out the right clothing, since it can be freezing in the morning, but on days where the sun comes out it gets rather warm during the day.
Lake Como Winter Weather (December – February)
Winter in December, January, and February tends to be mild but chilly, with daytime highs around 4°C to 6°C (39°F to 43°F). Snow is rare in the towns around the lake but common in the nearby mountains. The lake is quiet and peaceful in winter, making it a charming time for those who prefer fewer crowds. But be aware that especially in the smaller towns around the lake, many shops and restaurants might be closed. I’d recommend staying in Como or Lecco for your accommodation in the winter, and then go on day trips from those bigger towns. That way you are not that dependant on shops and restaurants being open in the smaller towns.

Best Months to Visit Lake Como Based on Weather
From my experience living near Lake Como, choosing the best months to visit really depends on what kind of weather and atmosphere you prefer. Each season offers something different, so I like to think of it as matching your visit to what you want to get out of your trip.
If you enjoy warm, sunny weather and long, lively days by the lake, June, July, and August are ideal. Just be prepared for some hot days over 30°C (86°F), especially in July.
Why August is My Recommended Month to Visit
If you prefer a lively atmosphere and lots of things to do, summer is perfect. My personal recommendation is August, when many Italians take their vacations, often heading south. However, if you plan on hiking in July or August, I recommend starting early in the morning to avoid the midday heat, when temperatures can rise significantly.

It’s a great time for exploring the picturesque villages like Bellagio, Varenna, or Como itself, where cobblestone streets and lakeside cafes can be enjoyed without the crowds and with mild weather. However, some days in autumn can bring rain, so it’s wise to have a flexible itinerary or indoor alternatives like museums and historic sites just in case.

In winter, while many outdoor water activities slow down, the weather still offers plenty of opportunities for pleasant walking tours and exploring the local culture. The towns take on a peaceful, serene atmosphere, and although some villas and outdoor attractions may have reduced hours or be temporarily closed, the mild temperatures generally make sightseeing comfortable.
